Mr. Sanjay Rughani

Sanjay Rughani is the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Standard Chartered Bank Uganda Limited, a role he has held since June 2022. With nearly 25 years in banking across Africa, Asia, and Europe, he has held senior roles in the UK, Kenya, Ghana, Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Côte d'Ivoire, overseeing Standard Chartered’s operations in Africa and India. Before this, he was CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania.

Recognized for business transformation and thought leadership, Sanjay has enhanced business performance, championed responsible business, and driven digital innovation. He chairs IFAC’s Professional Accountants in Business Advisory Group, is a Director at TradeMark Africa, and Deputy Chair of YPO’s Sustainable Business Network. His past governance roles include Chair of Tanzania’s CEO Roundtable and Deputy Chair of the Tanzania Bankers Association. A Chartered Accountant and ACCA Fellow, he holds an MBA in Finance and a Bachelor of Commerce. Sanjay is a Tanzanian citizen.
