Teerooven Soobaroyen, Professor of Accounting at Aston University, UK, previously held a Chair at the University of Essex (2016- 2023) and academic positions at Universities of Southampton, Aberystwyth and University of Mauritius. His research addresses the role of accounting, accountability, and governance, mainly in Global South contexts. His publications relate to social, environmental and governance disclosure practices, the implementation of corporate governance codes, accounting regulation and professionalisation projects, public financial management reforms, notably in Africa. From funding, engagement and policy perspectives, he has coauthored several commissioned reports for the African Professionalisation Initiative (API), the World Bank’s Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability (PEFA), and the UK Financial Reporting Council (FRC). He was the President of the African Accounting and Finance Association (AAFA, 2019-2021) and has been the research convenor for the Africa Call for Accounting and Finance Research Initiative (ACAFRI) coordinated by AAFA and funded by the Pan-African Federation of Accountants (PAFA).
